Kings College Wimbledon School 11 Plus Entry Process
(from school website)
STARTING THE APPLICATION PROCESS
It is likely that the first step you will take is to arrange to visit the school. We are always delighted to welcome you here and you will find the opportunities available for visits on the Visiting and Open Events page.
Entry dates
If you are unsure of which is the correct year for your son to enter King’s, please check the entry dates below.
Date of birth | Year of entry |
01/09/2010 – 31/08/2011 | Sept 2022 |
01/09/2011 – 31/08/2012 | Sept 2023 |
01/09/2012 – 31/08/2013 | Sept 2024 |
Registration
Registration is the first step for candidates who wish to be considered for a place at King’s College School. We recommend that you register at the end of Year 5 or the start of year 6, no later than the deadline, which is in early November of year 6.
Please note that King’s currently only accepts applications from students who are British or Irish citizens, or who can demonstrate that they are dependents of people legally entitled to live in the UK for the duration of their study at King’s. The School does not sponsor pupils under the Child Student Visa Scheme. In line with the Equality Act 2010 and the school's Admissions Policy, applications are welcomed from all candidates regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, disability or special educational need.
As part of the registration process you will complete an online application form for your son to take the 11+ and give us permission to contact your son’s head teacher for a confidential reference. You will also have the chance to tell us a little about your son’s interests and achievements and will be asked to send us his end of year 5 report once you have it.
Please note that it is not possible to apply for both 11+ and 13+ entry. All boys are assessed in year 6 and offers for each are made in early February.
11+ SCHOLARSHIPS
Academic, Music and Sport scholarships are available for year 7 entrants. Please see the 11+ Scholarships section of this page for further details and application forms.
HELP WITH FEES (BURSARIES)
You may want to apply for a place at King’s for your son but are worried about being able to pay the fees. King’s is committed to widening access to the school and during the registration process you will be asked if you would like to apply for a bursary (assistance with fees). More information about bursaries can be found on the Help with Fees (bursaries) page.
THE ENTRANCE EXAMINATIONS
The 11+ entrance examinations take place in December when boys are in year 6. There are three examinations: English, Mathematics and Verbal Reasoning. Specimens of the English and Mathematics exams will be added to the website from September. We do not supply sample reasoning papers but these are readily available from booksellers.
In line with the Equality Act 2010, exam concessions may be available for candidates with a specific learning difficulty, disability, or long-term medical condition, or for candidates for whom English is an Additional Language. Please follow this link for more information on the Entrance Exam Concessions Policy.
THE EXAMINATION RESULTS
Once we have the examination results we decide which boys we want to ask back to be interviewed. To help us make this decision we look at the examination marks, the information you have supplied and your head teacher’s reference. We are looking for potential as well as current achievement and we use the interviews to help us find out more about the boys.
THE INTERVIEWS
In January you will be told whether or not your son has been invited back to be interviewed. If so, he will come to King’s to be interviewed by our kind and experienced staff. If your son is not offered an interview we will, sadly, not be taking his application forward.
THE OFFER
Offers are made in mid-February. Those boys who will not be receiving an offer from us will also be informed on that day.
A PLACE AT KING’S COLLEGE SCHOOL
You will need to confirm your acceptance of the place by returning the correct forms and paying a deposit of £2,000 by the agreed acceptance date.
PREPARING TO JOIN KING’S
All boys who have been offered places in year 7 at King’s will be invited in for an induction day in the Summer term before they join King’s, when they can meet their teachers and the other boys in their year. There will also be an induction day before the beginning of the Autumn term.
